Wow! Now last weeks Presentation Dinner was hard to beat!

Our 20th Pride of Workmanship Awards went very smoothly, including ringing in some changes to the format of the evening, and for me it just had to be one of the best experiences in my Rotary year.

Such an unexpected attendance of around 180 was impressive too!

It was a real pleasure to see all the excited awardees enjoying the fun and fellowship of the occasion with their bosses, work colleges and families.

Even more, was that I actually had time to visit them at their tables during the evening and speak with them all, about their achievements and commitment to their chosen work.

It was a very rewarding experience for everyone involved.

Brian Turvey and his team need their own ‘Pride of Workmanship’ award for organising such a memorable evening! They ‘did it once’ and ‘did it well’; it might even help ‘build a better Australia’, but it certainly elevated our Rotary Club within our local business community.

We also got some excellent press coverage and one company even put an advertisement in ‘The Times’ this week congratulating their employee and the Rotary Club of Port Lincoln.

Julie, Tony, the kitchen and bar staff at Ravendale Complex provided quality service and a lovely meal and our guest speaker Peter Hurley kept us captivated with a fine speech.

Peter was not only impressed with the Ravendale Sports Centre complex and what they could provide, but with the ‘Pride Of Workmanship’ awards scheme through Rotary, as this was an ‘unknown’ to him, before  being asked to be our guest speaker.

I’m sure he’ll be a good ambassador for both in the future.

Our dinner meeting tonight will be a short sharp and shiny one, following the earlier heavy input to our Corporate Golf day. I still hope there is an opportunity for at least one of the IYFORIANS to join us at the meeting and tell us something about their WA trip.

Please note that on June 1 our dinner meeting is another LADIES NIGHT when Jim Kay has organised a guest speaker, Jane Scotcher from “Ronald McDonald House” in Melbourne Street Nth Adelaide.

This worthy cause runs a very special place, where miracles of love, caring and kindness take place for children with cancer, as well as their parents and siblings. It deserves our keen support, as we know many locals who have been and are still assisted whilst their families are facing such testing circumstances. Normal 2-course dinner will be provided for the normal $20 pp. See you all there!

June 8, we will have a short talk on this years D9500 conference at AAMI in October by Conference Coordinator Peter Murton, after which we plan a visit to the new MFS Fire Station in St Andrews Tce if it can be organised in time.

June 15, Jackie has organised a dinner for our wives and partners at the Kirton Point Bowling Club. Catering is by Dragons Abreast Port Lincoln and the guest speaker is Helen Hookings, the local Breast Care Nurse talking about Breast Cancer Awareness.

That same night we will have our Club Assembly, at Ravendale after the normal dinner meeting.

The Aisle Seat

Two Radical Arab Terrorists boarded a flight out of  London . One took a window seat and the other sat next to him in the middle seat... Just before takeoff, a U.S. Marine sat down in the aisle seat. After takeoff, the Marine kicked his shoes off, wiggled his toes and was settling in when the Arab in the window seat said, 'I need to get up and get a coke.'  'Don't get up,' said the Marine, 'I'm in the aisle seat, 'I'll get it for you.'

As soon as he left, one of the Arabs picked up the Marine's shoe and spat in it. When the Marine returned with the coke, the other Arab said, 'That looks good, I'd really like one, too.' Again, the Marine obligingly went to fetch it. While he was gone the other Arab picked up the Marines other shoe and spat in it. When the Marine returned, they all sat back and enjoyed the flight.

As the plane was landing, the Marine slipped his feet into his shoes and knew immediately what had happened. He leaned over and asked his Arab neighbors... 'Why does it have to be this way?' 'How long must this go on? This fighting between our nations? This hatred? This animosity? This spitting in shoes and peeing in cokes?'

The four way test
Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Invocation:

For food, faith and fellowship and every opportunity of service we give you thanks O’Lord.
