Thank you, Neville, for a great ‘Know your member’ talk last week. It certainly confirmed to us that you have all the attributes to make a fine Rotarian and an outstanding member of our Club.

These talks allow all of us to be just a little bit more aware of our new members, their families and their businesses, as well as a taste of the family history.

It’s also a reminder that we really need to coerce some of our long term members to tell their stories again some time, for the benefit of the newer members and the general interest of everyone else.

I noted this week in the Port Lincoln Times, that it is just a year ago on the 16th of May, that our esteemed PP and PHF, Bruce Roberts passed away. A well respected member still missed.

Thanks to all the members who volunteered their time to help move some more donated furniture from TAFE to Pivot on Wednesday afternoon. The hall looks half full already!

Nine of our IYFORIANS and their partners have just returned from a visit to WA where they were all treated very well with a busy tour schedule, from Perth to Freemantle to Mandurah and a cruise on the Swan River to winery. Good food, wine, fellowship, plenty of interesting excursions and making of new acquaintances were the order of every day.

We look forward to a report or two from the participants in the next couple of weeks.

This week, brings us our 20th Pride of Workmanship Awards Dinner, with thirteen award presentations to make to local employees who have been nominated by their employer in recognition of their individual involvement, achievement and commitment in the workplace, emphasising the

‘Pride of Workmanship’ motto of:  ‘DO IT ONCE - DO IT WELL – BUILD A BETTER AUSTRALIA’ At the time of writing this ‘patter’ I understand that we will well and truly fill Ravendale’s dining facility with some 170 awardees, employers and families plus Rotarians and partners attending.

We look forward to a wonderful evening, including our guest speaker Peter Hurley.

Next week, Tuesday May 25 is our Corporate Golf day, and Chairman Noel Jenkins still requires volunteers to help with a few more tasks on the day.

Please consider what you can do to help him and his committee, and let Noel know tonight.

Noel might also need some assistance, by you all encouraging a few more likely participants for the event and getting them to contact Noel as soon as possible. As per usual, everything will come together in a rush this last week of preparation! We’ll have a great day no doubt!

The dinner meeting that night will be a pretty standard one, but it would be an opportunity for the IFORIANS to tell us all about their WA trip and what they have got planned for the future.

On June 1 our dinner meeting is another LADIES NIGHT when Jim Kay has organised a visit from “Ronald McDonald House”. This worthy cause runs a very special place in Melbourne Street Nth Adelaide, where miracles of love, caring and kindness take place for children with cancer, and their parents and siblings. It deserves our keen support, as we know many locals who have been and are still assisted whilst their families are facing such testing circumstances. See you all there!

Stimulus package at work

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence in Yarralumla.

One is from Canberra, another from Melbourne, and the third one is from Perth..

All three go with a government official to examine the fence.

The Canberra contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works out some figures with a pencil.

"Well", he says, "I figure the job will run to about $900, $400 for

materials, $400 for my crew and $100 profit for me".

The Melbourne contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says "I can do this job for $700, $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and $100 profit for me".

The Perth contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans over to the

government official and whispers "$2,700".

The government official, incredulous, says "You didn't even measure like the other guys! How did you come up with such a high figure?'

The Perth contractor whispers back "$1,000 for me, $1,000 for you, and we hire the bloke from Melbourne to fix the fence".

"Done" replies the government official.

And that, my friends, is how the new stimulus plan is working

Lemon Squeeze

There once was a religious young woman who went to Confession. Upon entering the confessional, she said, 'Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned.'

The priest said, 'Confess your sins and be forgiven.' The young woman said, 'Last night my boyfriend made made passionate love to me seven times.' The priest thought long and hard and then said, 'Squeeze seven lemons into a glass and then drink the juice.' The young woman asked, 'Will this cleanse me of my sins?'

The priest said, 'No, but it will wipe that smile off of your face.'

The four way test
Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Invocation:

For food, faith and fellowship and every opportunity of service we give you thanks O’Lord.
