It was great to hear the joint presentation about the experience of our RYLA awardees, Brea and Jonathan last week. They are certainly shining examples of young people who display sufficient leadership skills to be selected for RYLA, and then benefitting enormously from the intense involvement they had in the week-long camp. Good reports from the camp indicate that they could be involved as possible mentors for next RYLA Camp. They were a source of great pride to their parents, employers and to our Club. Congratulations to them both, and many thanks to Gus Preston who coordinated their applications, preparation for the camp, and their travel arrangements.

After about 10 months or so adventuring in the Americas we fondly welcome home Chris and Christine Stone, safe and sound, from their amazing trip. They will surely be able to tell us many interesting stories, both tall and true, of their journey and personal experiences. We wait with baited breath!

This week we have Neville Will’s “know your member” talk which I am looking forward to very much.

I’m sure he will have some fascinating tales to tell us of his younger days, farming life and cars.

Unfortunately Adrian Glover, who introduced Neville to the Club, is away with our IYFORIANS in WA and would have been keen to introduce him again tonight.

Next week, May 18 brings us to our 20th Pride of Workmanship Awards Dinner, when we will present thirteen awards to local business employees who have been nominated by their bosses in recognition of their individual involvement, achievement and commitment in the workplace, emphasising the

Pride of Workmanship motto of ‘DO IT ONCE - DO IT WELL – BUILD A BETTER AUSTRALIA’ This is a ladies night too, so please tick off the attendance sheet circulating at tonight’s meeting.

The awardees, their families and work colleges will help us fill Ravendale to capacity!

Look forward to seeing you all there and to hear our guest speaker Peter Hurley.

Monday May 24 is our last board meeting for 2009-10 before the combined meeting with PE Colin and his board members on June 21.

Tuesday May 25 is our Corporate Golf day and Chairman Noel Jenkins still requires volunteers to help with quite a lot of tasks on the day.

Please consider what you can do to help him and his committee, and check off the roster doing the rounds tonight so we can make this a most successful a day.

Noel has done a great job organising this project; and I might add, without the significant assistance that Noel Welfare would normally devote; as he who knows all the ‘ins and outs’ of such an event. Thanks also to Bob Sorensen and of course Reg Kemp who has organised the sponsors.

Softball with Rose and Barb

Two 90-year-old women, Rose and Barb had been friends all of their lives.
When it was clear that Rose was dying, Barb visited her every day.
One day Barb said, 'Rose, we both loved playing women's softball all our lives, and we played all through High School. Please do me one favor: when you get to Heaven, somehow you must let me know if there's women's softball there..'
Rose looked up at Barb from her deathbed and said, 'Barb, you've been my best friend for many years. If it's at all possible, I'll do this favor for you.'
Shortly after that, Rose passed on.
A few nights later, Barb was awakened from a sound sleep by a blinding flash of white light and a voice calling out to her, 'Barb, Barb.'
'Who is it?', asked Barb, sitting up suddenly. 'Who is it?'
'Barb -- it's me, Rose.'
'You're not Rose. Rose just died.'
'I'm telling you, it's me, Rose,' insisted the voice.
'Rose! Where are you?'
'In Heaven,' replied Rose. 'I have some really good news and a little bad news.'
'Tell me the good news first,' said Barb.
'The good news,' Rose said, 'is that there's softball in Heaven.  Better yet all of our old buddies who died before us are here, too.  And even better than that, we're all young again.  And better still, it's always springtime, and it never rains or snows.  And best of all, we can play softball all we want; we never get tired.'
'That's fantastic,' said Barb. 'It's beyond my wildest dreams!  So what's the bad news?'
'You're pitching Tuesday.'

Life is uncertain - eat dessert first.

The four way test
Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Invocation:

For food, faith and fellowship and every opportunity of service we give you thanks O’Lord.
