Well I continue to be amazed with the results of our fundraising for the ‘ShelterBox’ Project!
I’m proud to say that with the help of our local Rotary family, the Port Lincoln Lions Club, Zonta International Port Lincoln, Freemasons lodge No 45, YTAPs and Dragons Abreast Port Lincoln, the visitors to our display on the foreshore, we raised the princely sum of $2940.95 far exceeding my expectations!
Enough to possibly purchase three ‘ShelterBoxes’ at today’s exchange rates. Here’s hoping.
A huge thank you to all the businesses in Port Lincoln for their remarkable generosity when donating all the prizes for our raffles and the Auction. We will thank them all individually.
My sincere thanks to Gus Preston who gave his time and energy to diplomatically ask businesses for donations for our cause, and to Jackie who gave her time to reconciling packaging and grouping all the prizes for the raffles and auction and to PP Greg Patterson, PP Glen Karutz and Kevin Burner who ably conducted the latter. Also to all those volunteers who helped with the ‘ShelterBox’ display and BBQ at the foreshore on the Friday and Saturday.
Tim Klar, our guest speaker and the new Australian Chairperson of ‘ShelterBox in Australia’ went home to Adelaide most pleased with our Club’s fundraising efforts!
Everyone enjoyed an most successful and enjoyable evening
This week we have the RYLA Awardees, Brea Price and Jonathan Argent giving us a short presentation on their recent week long camp at Belair. I have received excellent reports on their participation, and look forward to them speaking. Afterwards we have our penultimate Committee Meetings for 2009-10.
On the 11 May we have Neville Will’s “know your member” talk which should be very interesting!
May 18 brings us to Pride of Workmanship when we will present thirteen awards to local business employees who have been nominated by their bosses and scrutinised by POW Chairman, Brian Turvey and his committee. This is a ladies night too, so please be sure to tick off the attendance sheet circulating at the next two meetings.
Monday May 24 is our last board meeting for 2009-10 before the combined meeting with PE Colin and his board members on June 21. All just a bit hard to believe where the last 12 months has gone!
