Last Tuesday’s visit to Axel Stenross Museum was a real eye opener! What amazing progress and improvements all the volunteers have made there over the last couple of years, to bring the public such an interesting and informative museum with so many exhibits!
One can see their need to expand and reorganise, so it will be interesting to see the results of that development. We wish them all the success, they so richly deserve.
The last couple of weeks have been pretty hectic, with the assessment and nomination of three local EP students for Rotary Youth Exchange-District interviews next week end in Adelaide. They are Byron Klein of Cockaleechie, and Beau Fitzgerald and Danica Reitzki of Port Lincoln. We wish them all well with their interviews and hope that their aspirations to become a Rotary Exchange student in 2011 come to fruition.
Brian Turvey and his ‘POW’ Committee have received and assessed all the nominations for Pride of Workmanship Awards, and the final acceptance letters have now gone out to the employers and recipients alike. Planning is well advanced and we now look forward to the big night out on Tuesday May 18th at Ravendale, 6.30 pm for 7.00 pm.
There will be a 3 course meal @ $30.00 pp. Please make sure you fill in the attendance sheet for that night.
This week has seen the BBQ Trailer in great demand, from Thursday on the foreshore for lunch for the participants in the ‘BeActive’ Corporate Challenge while the U16 National Hockey Tournament was running.
Then again on both Friday and Saturday to support the fundraising efforts for ‘ShelterBox’ for which we culminate tonight with our Combined Service Clubs’ Dinner.
We have already conducted two minor raffles and with many generous public donations as well, we cleared nearly $300 after expenses for our efforts to display to ‘ShelterBox’ tent. Thank you to all those volunteers who helped out with pitching the tent and the BBQ setups and the cooks of course.
Many visitors commented on our multi-media coverage for the display. Thanks to the Times, ABC Radio and Southern Cross TV for their great support for ShelterBox and what our Club is trying to achieve in supporting this great Humanitarian aid project to provide shelter, warmth and dignity to victims of worldwide disasters and conflicts.
Terry Doyle has been advised of good attendance from Lions, Zonta, Apex, Freemasons, and a large contingent from YTAP, (the Young Tradespersons and Professionals association on EP). Together with Rotarians and partners we should have about 100 for the dinner. We have 5 major raffles to run at the dinner, with 10 prizes in each, and approx 12 major items which PP Greg Patterson has kindly offered to auction for us on the night.
We also look forward to our guest speaker Tim Klar, the new Australian Chairperson of ‘ShelterBox in Australia’, to give us all some history, and some deployment scenarios of ‘ShelterBox’ as well as the latest on the organisation, which is the largest Global Rotary Club Project.
We look forward to a very successful and enjoyable evening.
An important reminder from Jackie; about the Morning tea and visit at Mill Cottage she has organised for our wives and partners on Wednesday 5 May. If you intend coming along please let Jackie know by reply to her email of 6 April, or by Phone 8682 5637, before tomorrow night Wednesday 28 April.
Next week we have the RYLA Awardees, Brea Price and Jonathan Argent giving us a short presentation on their recent week long camp at Belair, prior to us going to our Committee meetings.
