This week we have a presentation on the Variety Club and “the bash” by Sandra Lukin and Deb Sampson who have been long-time participants in this annual charity event. I believe they are about to undertake some restructure of their original touring party, replacing two existing team members with their own husbands! Surely this is a risky business for all concerned!! I’m sure we’ll get all the ‘gen’ on the night

I expect we will have a very interesting talk, with lots of photos to back up the stories they have to tell.

Last week I attended the Community Service Committee meeting where we had a lengthy discussion on the pros and cons of RYDA and eventually had 3 members offering to be a part of the steering committee to instigate things. Hope there are some more from the other committees.

I’m steadily becoming aware that this 2009-10 Rotary year is being despatched at a fair rate of knots now, as there are only 3 months to organise a pretty full calendar of things to do.

David Forbes is making sure we can have a good assortment of interesting speakers and some different venues, during April, May and June.

I’m also trying to sort out our annual break-up at Nyroca on the weekend of the 19/20 or 26/27 June. Hopefully I am able to confirm a date soon, as I am aware that some members are travelling early this year!

Thanks to Pablo for your expanded talk last Tuesday evening. It really showed you enjoyed the weekend together with the other students at Nyroca and it reinforces just what the Rotary Youth Exchange is all about; International peace, goodwill and friendship, all while involving yourself in a new language and culture. To top it all off you showed everyone that you can also learn new personal and sporting skills and increase your fitness, whilst still eating everyone out of house and home!

Keep up the good work, mate.

I’m away again as write this week’s Patter; getting my annual dose of exhaust fumes amongst good friends and renewed acquaintances at the Clipsal 500 for 4 days.

Back home for a board meeting Monday night and onto organising official club interviews for applicants for RYE outbound students for January 2011.

JUST ONE WISH

A man walking along a California beach was deep in prayer. All of a sudden, he said out loud, "Lord grant me one wish." Suddenly the sky clouded above his head and in a booming voice the Lord said, "Because you have TRIED to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you one wish." The man said, "Build a bridge to Hawaii, so I can drive over anytime I want." The Lord said, "Your request is very materialistic. Think of the enormous challenges for that kind of undertaking. The supports required to reach the bottom of the Pacific! The concrete and steel it would take! I can do it, but it is hard for me to justify your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of another wish, a wish you think would honor and glorify me." The man thought about it for a long time. Finally he said, "Lord, I wish that I could understand women. I want to know how they feel inside, what they are thinking when they give me the silent treatment, why they cry, what they mean when they say 'nothing', and how I can make a woman truly happy." The Lord replied, "You want two lanes or four on that bridge?"

The four way test
Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Invocation:

For food, faith and fellowship and every opportunity of service we give you thanks O’Lord.
