This week we have guest speakers Kathryn Hardwick-Franco and Geraldine Turner from EPNRM - Eyre Peninsula Natural Resources Management (Board).

We were delighted to receive a surprise cheque of $2,000 from them, at our Christmas Dinner function. This money will go towards purchasing plants for newly enhanced areas of Puckridge Park.

It is fitting that we are able to show our appreciation to them by asking that they be our guest speakers this evening and enlighten us about their role within the EPNRM and its role in the community. This is a Ladies Night, so please tick off your attendance, as desired, on the website.

We also have a very important task to undertake this evening;

It is the induction of our first new Rotarian for 2009-10.

It is Neville Will, and we look forward to having our club’s spirit and service strengthened by his association and contribution to the members and the club. Congratulations!

I’m sure Neville and his wife Debbie will be warmly welcomed by everyone.

Last week we were ‘entertained’ for quite a while with Bob Sorensen’s 5 minute talk on the ‘Happy Crabbers’ at Cowell the previous few days. His organisation of the event was excellent and set with such precedent; he deserves serious consideration by PE Colin to be given that task again next year!

…….  and we already knew that Bunny always gets the women into his boat, and that Pablo is not too bad on the tooth! But alas, no juicy or inspiring stories of any untoward ‘weekend happenings’.

Even Sergeant David was pretty tight-lipped during his fine session!

Committee meetings afterwards went well apparently, with only International’s being postponed due to Pat’s absence.

The Film Night - ‘Bran Nue Dae’ arranged by David Forbes, had a few organisational hiccups after we met the Youthoria people last Monday morning. Foremost, we learnt that our suggested day, Tues 23 Feb, was not the first screening in Port Lincoln and David and I thought it much better to opt for the film’s ‘Premiere screening’ on Thursday 18 February at 7.00 pm instead, to make sure we got a reasonable crowd to come along and enjoy the night with us. The film lasts 90 mins so there’s plenty of time afterwards for snack and coffee somewhere if you would like to organise that part yourselves.

Last dinner meeting we managed to have 190 tickets (a Houseful) ready for distribution, and quite a few were taken up by members to sell the 24 booklets of 8 tickets each. Thank you all.

We need a minimum of 70 people before we even start to make a dollar, so PLEASE make sure you can sell some to rellies and neighbours before the 18th! A full house will raise $760.00

It’s all in a good cause - “End Polio Now” – for The Rotary Foundation’s No1 beneficiary.

Please note for your diaries / calendars:

On the 23rd February (Rotary’s 105th Birthday) our guest speaker will be Susan Dahl from the Asthma Foundation.

NB: On Wed 24th Feb, Volunteers-don’t forget Mega’s BBQ at Fisherman’s Point for Lincoln Yacht Club.

On the 2nd March we have a presentation on the Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) Program from the Craig and Jan Rogasch, the District RYDA Coordinators, from the Rotary Club of Barossa Valley. SAPOL and local High School reps will be in attendance. Committees meetings on 9th March.

Dave the hen

Dave came home from the pub late one Friday evening stinking drunk, as he often did, and crept into bed beside his wife who was already asleep.
He gave her a peck on the cheek and fell asleep. When he awoke, he found a strange man standing at the end of his bed. 'Who the hell are you?', demanded Frank , 'and what are you doing in my bedroom ?'
The mysterious man answered, 'This isn't your bedroom and I'm St Peter ..'
Dave was stunned. 'You mean I'm dead !!! That can't be, I have so much to live for - and I haven't said goodbye to my family. . ...... You've got to send me back straight away.'
St Peter replied, 'Yes, you can be reincarnated but there is a catch. We can only send you back as a dog or a hen.'
Dave was devastated, but knowing there was a farm not far from his house, he asked to be sent back as a hen.
A flash of light later, he was covered in feathers and clucking around, pecking the ground.
'This ain't so bad', he thought until he felt this strange feeling welling up inside him. The farmyard rooster strolled over and said, 'So you're the new hen, How are you enjoying your first day here ?'
'It's not so bad', replies Dave, 'but I have this strange feeling inside like I'm about to explode.'
'You're ovulating', explained the rooster. 'Don't tell me you've never laid an egg before.'
'Never', replies Dave ..
'Well just relax and let it happen'.
And so he did and after a few uncomfortable seconds later, an egg pops out from under his tail. An immense feeling of relief swept over him and his emotions got the better of him as he experienced motherhood for the first time.
When he laid his second egg, the feeling of happiness was overwhelming and he knew that being reincarnated as a hen was the best thing that ever happened to him . . . Ever!!!
The joy kept coming and as he was just about to lay his third egg, he felt an enormous smack on the back of his head and heard his wife shouting...
' Dave, wake up, you drunken bastard. You've shit the bed !!'

The four way test
Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Invocation:

For food, faith and fellowship and every opportunity of service we give you thanks O’Lord.
