Many have commented and agree with me, that it was really pleasing to see so many members and visitors present at our meeting on Tuesday night. To hear the fantastic sounds of fellowship and camaraderie is most satisfying. What a difference the noise makes too!
So we can make sure we continue in this vein in the New Year, the Board and I are determined to have more, regular and interesting guest speakers, and ‘rev the show up a bit’ as we attract and induct a few new members into the Club, and we commence our second semester with this year’s International theme in mind: “THE FUTURE OF ROTARY IS IN YOUR HANDS”
It was great to welcome 3 guests of Rotarians. Thanks to Leo Stewart (Peter Stewart), Bob Sorensen (Gerry Thomas and Neville Mustica).
Our special guests of the Club for the evening were Emile Pearson with his parents Odette and Danton.
Despite being a little nervous and having to wait some time for us to overcome our technical problems, Emile’s presentation went very well, and I’m sure he has the confidence to take on board some constructive points of view from the evening.
He will be hosted by the Rotary Club of Söderköping-s:t Ragnhild in District 2410, part of south east of the country. Emile and Pat have already been in touch with his first host family and counsellor.
I’m sure he’ll relish the year ahead, immerse himself in Swedish life, and be a great ambassador for his family, school, city, country as well as our Club.
He’ll come back to us in Jan 2011, quite a different young individual, having learnt so much from all his cultural and educational experiences in Sweden and Europe.
This time of year is certainly a joyous one, as we all look forward to catching up with and enjoying the company of family and loved ones and friends to share the good times and gifts with, as we remember the true spirit of Christmas.
December is ‘Rotary Family Month’ and it goes without saying that, families are the greatest bond of the human race. We need to keep in mind always, not just during this Festive Season, those less fortunate than ourselves, across the world and our own wide brown land, and to generally quote the Fourth Object of Rotary; “encourage the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through world fellowship of business and professional persons and our families, united in the ideal of service.”
Jackie and I will be away for about 3 weeks visiting our youngest daughter Linda and her family in Uki, near Murwillumbah, NSW for Christmas and New Year and will be back about the 10th January.
Glenn Karutz will run the meeting on 5th January at Puckridge Park. Please assist PE Colin West re your attendance on the sheet doing the rounds tonight, so he can cater for the evening with ease.
We wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
Look forward to seeing you all in the New Year. |
