It was great to see so many attend the AGM/Assembly last week. (64%)
And thanks to those who participated in both sides of the rigorous debate about the Bulletin Lite.
I’m sure, in this amazing age of technology, we’ll get it right for everybody, one day!!
We are delighted that Noel Jenkins had the courage to nominate for the position of President Elect 2011/12. Congratulations Noel, I wish you all the best in your new and important role, and assure you, that as you wish, there are many people able to provide you with guidance along the way.
Tonight it gives me great pleasure to welcome as Guests of the Club, Emile Pearson and his family, mother; Odette, father; Danton, and brother Andre.
Emile has been invited and give us a presentation which he has formulated to show his host Rotary Club and others, his school and host families; some of our city and environs, as well as some broader aspects of Eyre Peninsula and our state, Australia, its cultures and comparatively short heritage.
Emile is 16 years old and has just completed Year 10 at Port Lincoln High School. He is sponsored by our Club to spend his twelve month Rotary Youth Exchange in Sweden, where he will be hosted by the Rotary Club of Söderköping-s:t Ragnhild in District 2410, part of south eastern Sweden.
He and his family will also attend our first meeting of the year at Puckridge Park on Tuesday 5 January, so we can wish him bon voyage in more relaxed circumstances.
Emile flies out of Adelaide on the 22 January 2010 and we all wish him well for his exchange.
During the last couple of weeks I have had the pleasure, along with some other members of my board, to attend quite a few Christmas functions and receive many good wishes to pass onto to all our members and their families from the local service clubs and in particular, the Probus Clubs; from Cummins, Tumby Bay and the Men’s, Ladies’ and Combined Clubs of Port Lincoln. I have invited two representatives of these Probus Clubs to join us for our Christmas dinner next Saturday.
Hope we get a good crowd, including some prospective members. I’m sure we’ll all enjoy ourselves.
We are organising for PO’B and Marilyn to join us for a couple of hours, and I gather we’ll be able to welcome Lloyd and Marilyn Burgess back to town after many months away in the northern parts of Australia. Lloyd should be well prepared to give us a very interesting talk on all their escapades, in the New Year! Welcome back too, to PP Greg and Karen from their WA trip.
Christmas Dinner:
