What a week!

It culminated in our Annual Auction being a really great success. Thank you to everyone involved.

The goods were of good quality on the whole, and with the 130+ ticket holders giving very competitive bids on everything, this year’s auction has been very rewarding financially.

Congratulations to Peter Myers and his band of supporters for a superb effort, organising and collecting goods, racking them into trailers etc on Friday, and up and at it early Saturday, to get all the items down to the foreshore and laid out in an orderly fashion.

The layout of the site, with the centralised ‘hub’ for the cashier, BBQ and Weeties bric-a-brac stall was excellent, and I’m sure it will be the standard arrangement in the future!

Many thanks go to Weetbix and his team for getting the early sales going on his stall, a great job with excellent results; also Scott, Mike, Murray, Bill and Soro and the many others who cooked and served to make the BBQ such a success. The egg and bacon muffins were a real treat for breakfast, with sausage sizzle and drinks selling well. It was a real benefit to have the public moving through this area about four times!

Now the Auction couldn’t happen at all, without the Auctioneers and associated staff! Greg Patterson, Phil Channon and Jim Pallant were assisted by bagmen Hendo and Dave Gillies, penciller Juri and runner Dave Forbes, not to mention Jackie Johnston and Barbara Preston who worked non stop to correlate the ticketing, buyer’s accounts and payments, with cashier Mike Munro.

Tonight Auction Chairman Peter Myers will give an organisational summary and Mike Munro will give us the financial summary and tell us who guessed nearest the final takings figure.

  • Don’t forget we have Club and Vocational Committee meetings tonight!

  • Xmas Dinner will be at Ravendale on Sat 19th December.

I have invited Garry and Judith Cox from the Salvation Army to our Dinner who will gratefully accept any donated presents for Girls and Boys from newborn to 7 years.

  • DG’s wife Vicky’s project: Kindergarten Readiness Kits for indigenous children.

Jackie now has 50 bags being made which is her target quantity. BUT she needs donations of goods to fill the bags as per list or $20.00 per bag to fill about 37 of the 50 made. So there is still a way to go yet, and we’d like to deliver them by the end of November.

Worth watching

The woman is standing behind a table which is covered with sand. The table is lit
from beneath. There is an overhead camera above the table, and that video is being
projected onto the large screen behind her so that the audience can watch
what she is doing.

She is telling the story of ...one of the aerial bombings of Kiev during
World War II. You will see one of the famous monuments that stands in Kiev today
commemorating those bombings

The benefits of walking

Walking can add minutes to your life.
This enables you at 85 years old to spend
an additional 5 months in a nursing home
at $7000 per month.

My grandpa started walking
five miles a day when he was 60.
Now he's 97 years old and we
don't know where the hell he is.

I like long walks,
especially when they are taken
by people who annoy me.

The only reason I would take up walking
is so that I could hear heavy breathing again.

I have to walk early in the morning,
before my brain figures out what I'm doing

I joined a health club last year ...
spent about 400 bucks.
Haven't lost a pound.
Apparently you have to go there.

Every time I hear the dirty word 'exercise',
I wash my mouth out with chocolate.

I do have flabby thighs,
but fortunately my stomach covers them.

The advantage of exercising every day
is so when you die, they'll say,
....'Well, she looks good doesn't she.'

If you are going to try cross-country skiing,
start with a small country.

I know I got a lot of exercise the last few years,......
..... just getting over the hill.

We all get heavier as we get older,
because there's a lot more information in our heads.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

.... and

Every time I start thinking too much about how I look,
I just find a Happy Hour, and by the time I leave,
I look just fine
.

The four way test
Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Invocation:

For food, faith and fellowship and every opportunity of service we give you thanks O’Lord.
