It was very pleasing to have such a good gathering for our 60th Anniversary on the 24th October.

I think everyone really enjoyed themselves, judging by comments and the number of ‘stayers’ at the end of the night. Thanks to PP PHF John Bassham as our very capable MC, all the speakers who recalled their time of presidency with a little spot of Club history and local culture of the time, and to David Forbes for his well thought out fine session. Very special thanks to PE Colin West, for organising the dinner RSVPs and the programme on the night. A “Lincoln Times” replica of October 1949, showing pages dealing with the Charter of our Club was a great idea. Despite many interruptions to his progress, it was a job very well done! Our birthday cake was made and donated by Di Gillies. Thanks Di, it was much appreciated! Thanks also to all the willing helpers who set the tables, installed and dismantled all the decorations and to Jo and Tony for the great venue and food they provided at RCSC.A big effort was made this past week to sell all the Trifecta tickets. After Saturday mornings effort at Woolworths front and back doors, we shouldn’t have too many to sell on Monday. I hope Weetbix can sell all of his at the track on Tuesday morning! Please make sure you return all money from ticket sales to John Myers at the latest at our meeting on Tuesday evening. He can reconcile everything then, in preparation for a winner to reveal him or herself! (It could even be a Welsh GSE person!)** Our next Main Event is our Annual Auction on this Saturday morning, 7th November. Hopefully the weather will be fine and we have a great day on the foreshore lawns.Auction start time is 9.30 am sharp and we expect to go until approximately 12 to 12.30 pm. Registration will be within one of the new Bendigo Bank Marquees, we’ll have our BBQ set up in our Rotary Marquee. These marquees plus Weeties Bric-a-brac stall will be adjacent to each other in the middle of the Auction item layout. THE BBQ will be serving $3.00 egg and bacon muffins for breakfast from 8.30 am and a $2.00 per sausage/onion - sizzle after that, through to lunch time. Our Auction Chairman, Peter Myers will be sending around a comprehensive roster sheet tonight for all tasks on both the Friday and Saturday. It is very important that you read it carefully, then clearly fill in your name (and your partner’s if that’s the case) in the tasks you select.  To move the goods on both Friday and Saturday, please make sure you offer your own time and a vehicle, be it your car/trailer, utility or truck or something begged, borrowed or ‘stolen’, so Peter can confidently organise the loading on Friday morning and the transport to the foreshore from Pivot’s shed on Saturday morning. We really need everyone helping. It is critical to the outcome of the auction. If you can’t choose your task tonight, please tell Peter tonight that you will let him know by phone on Wednesday 0428 825 140; 8682 5140It’s still not too late ask your own families, neighbours, and business associates if they might have any saleable items to be donated to our Auction. We’ll pick up until 2.30pm Thursday afternoon. Good luck!Don’t forget we have Committee meetings tonight!

Xmas Dinner will be at Ravendale Sat 19th December, details to be advised later.

Rotary Club of Port Lincoln celebrates 60th Anniversary

On Saturday 24th October the Rotary Club of Port Lincoln celebrated the 60th Anniversary of their Charter on 25th October 1949, with a dinner for about 90 Rotarians and friends at the Ravendale Community Sports Centre.

Guests came from far and wide, and included the present D9500 District Governor Alun Hughes and his wife Vicky; past member and Past District Governor Colin Thorn and his wife Joy; President of the Rotary Club of Whyalla, Michelle Hart and her husband John.

MC for the evening was past member John Bassham with his wife Marion, returned to Port Lincoln from Renmark for this special occasion. For John it was a double celebration for his 70th birthday that day, with his family and friends attending as well.

Pablo Henry, the locally hosted Rotary Youth Exchange student was accompanied by Celine Baguette, who is also from Belgium, and hosted by Rotary Club of Renmark in D9520.

Toasts were made to Australia, Belgium, and Rotary International.

The District Governor Alun Hughes responded on behalf of Rotary International.

A three course dinner was enjoyed by all, a commemorative wine glass was provided as a memento of the occasion, and 50s themed music was provided by the Greg Eden Trio.

A number of Past Presidents spoke of their involvement in the Club, to mark some of the 60 years of history. To name a few, Honorary Rotarian Tom Bascombe 1977/78, Allan Smith 81/82, Branco Franco President 86/87, Jim Pallant 97/98, to Glenn Karutz 2004/05. All gave a resume of the Club’s current culture and activities during their year as President.

During their visit, the President of the Rotary Club of Port Lincoln David Johnston, showed DG Alun Hughes and his wife Vicky around the latest developments in Puckridge Park and to see the 60th Anniversary commemorative plaque on the newly erected entrance wall to the park.

The four way test
Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Invocation:

For food, faith and fellowship and every opportunity of service we give you thanks O’Lord.
