As we head further into October, we have quite a few local club events to consider.

First of them is our Potential Members’ night, tonight.

It is a very important night for the Port Lincoln Rotary Club Inc, as we all know,

“The Future of Rotary is in our hands.”

So this is our way of trying to secure the future of our Club by encouraging local business professionals towards participating in Rotary, as we proceed down the road of increasing and retaining our membership.

We have invited some 65 guests along this evening, and there are nearly 40 who have decided to join us for this evening of fellowship, fun, and networking with our members and their fellow business professionals.

They come from a wide variety of family and business backgrounds, which should encourage lots of discussions and stories while we enjoy a simple meal and a few ales or red cordials.

We hope to give them a small taste of what our Rotary Club is like from a fellowship point of view, and some of what we do as a service club, for the local, wider and global communities. Our encouragement towards them is paramount, in making sure that our guests primarily enjoy our fellowship as well as hear and see the personal benefits, and understand the advantages to their businesses, by possibly taking an active role in the future of the Rotary Club of Port Lincoln.

Our guest speaker is Barry Schultz, of ‘Schultz and Bassham’ chemist fame. He had been member of the Rotary Club of Port Lincoln for nearly 17 years when he relocated to Adelaide at the end of 1997. His years of experience on business communications and networking stand him in good stead to address us during the evening.

Second is our 60th Anniversary Celebrations on Saturday 24th October. It is at Ravendale Community Sports Centre at 6.30 for 7.00 pm. Cost $45 per head including 3-course dinner, commemorative wine glasses, with music of the big band era by Greg Eden’s Trio. This is a celebration to have some fun together, and we are not trying to match or out-do our 50th Anniversary which was a memorable affair!

Third is the Auction to be held on Saturday morning 7th November on the foreshore lawns between the Yacht Club and the Tasman Hotel.

We have been gradually building up a supply of donated goods at Pivot’s Hall, but with our advertising on radio, TV and the Times, we are now expecting to be busy with increasing numbers of collections required over the next few weeks.

Our Auction Chairman, Peter Myers will be looking for more volunteers for pickups during the weekdays. Please make sure you offer your car/trailer, utility or truck, so he can identify who can pick up- what items, on his schedule.

He will appreciate you contacting him with your offer of self and /or vehicle. Ph 8682 5140

Furthermore all members need to be prepared to ask their own families, neighbours, and business associates if they might have any saleable items to be donated to our Auction.

Good luck!

Fourth: Xmas Dinner will be at Ravendale Sat 19th December, details to be advised later.

Kindergarten Readiness Kits project

Dear Rotarians, wives and partners

At the recent District Conference, the District Governor’s wife, Vicky, asked wives and partners to be involved in a project to supply Kindergarten Readiness Kits, for 3yr old aboriginal children, and possibly children with special needs or from recent migrant backgrounds as well.

It involves making and filling a simple bag, (the old book bag style) with “ready- for- kindy” items.

With the numbers of members in the Rotary Club of Port Lincoln, I would love to be able to achieve 50 bags for the project before the end of November.

Four ways you can help:

  • Making up bags – if you are a sewer, (just plain – nothing fancy required) could you nominate a number of bags that you could make.

  • Donating material for bags, or thread, or elastic if you don’t feel inclined to make bags yourself – each bag takes ½ metre of 115cm fabric (this also makes a little pencil case).

  • Collect items to go in the bags – see list below.

  • Donate some cash so that we can purchase some of the items to fill the bags.

If you’d like to be involved in one of these ways click here to open a printable form, tick a box and hand the sheet back via Rotary meeting, or ring me on 8682 5637. Thanks for your assistance.

Jackie

The four way test
Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Invocation:

For food, faith and fellowship and every opportunity of service we give you thanks O’Lord.
