Two nice surprises last meeting! Seven more members and partners back from various exploits. Firstly, welcome back to Murray Lubcke, Alan Burrows, Graham Henderson, John Foster, Brian Barnett, Baden Butler and Kuno Seeman. Furthermore, it was great to welcome four ladies from the Yankalilla Rotary Club visiting Port Lincoln last week. They included Jo Thomas and Sue Coppock (Dick Leech’s Twin girls), Cheryl You-Kee, and Jan Gursanscky.

Our guest speaker, Therese Pedlar gave an interesting presentation which reminded us all just how important it is to ‘be prepared, act and survive’ in the bushfire season which is approaching. Some interesting questions arose following her detailed discussion.

Jim Kay advised in the Bulletin last week that we will have a ‘clean up morning’ at Puckridge Park followed by a BBQ lunch on the Sunday 27 September for both members and partners. The developments that Jim, his tireless helpers, and his predecessors have made in the park, are just amazing. This is an ideal opportunity for all of us to lend a hand, see what’s been achieved, and make it ready to show off to the Welsh GSE Team and the public at large, as the weather improves and its usage increases in the next few months.

We have begun advertising our AUCTION on Sat 7th NOVEMBER on the foreshore lawns.

Please support Peter Myers and his team in soliciting amongst people you know, that we need donations of saleable goods for the auction. The goods are generously being stored at the Pivot hall again.

This week, we at last welcome the group of riders and support team from the Great Australian Bike Ride. What a way to go – 7 months ride around Australia! An amazing physical and mental test for them personally, but at the same time raising funds and public awareness for research into mental illness for Australian Rotary Health (ARH).

A warm welcome goes to Lions, Zonta, 3 Probus Clubs and Port Lincoln Lodge No 45 tonight.

Many thanks must go to Rod Patterson for his major effort in organising the support events for the GABR whilst they are here in Port Lincoln.

Any Rotarians and partners are still most welcome to come to the GABR Fundraising Dinner at the Boston Bay Winery, Thursday 6.30 for 7.00pm. Please ring Rod before Tuesday.

Please don’t forget to:

Fill out those roster sheets, as we still need to add some more volunteers for the set up of marquees and operate the BBQ for the public, on the ‘Light the Night’ event for the Leukaemia Foundation being held approx 6.00 pm on Friday 25 September.

Tonight check the attendance sheets being circulated for the Puckridge Park ‘clean-up’ and BBQ on Sunday 27September and the GSE Team Visit on Tuesday September 29, a ‘Ladies’ night’.

All the extras

Tiger Woods drives his BMW into a petrol station in a remote part of the Irish countryside. The pump attendant, obviously knows nothing about golf, and greets him in a typical Irish manner completely unaware of who the golfing pro is.

'Top of the mornin' to yer sir,' says the attendant.

Tiger nods a quick 'hello' and bends forward to pick up the nozzle. As he does so, two tees fall out of his shirt pocket onto the ground.

'What are those?', asks the attendant. 'The're called tees' replies Tiger.

'Well what on the god's earth are dey for?' enquiries the Irishman.

They're for resting my balls on when I'm driving,' says Tiger.

"Well bugger me,' says the Irishman, 'BMW thinks of everything.'

The four way test
Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Invocation:

For food, faith and fellowship and every opportunity of service we give you thanks O’Lord.
