It was great to have further increase in numbers attending last week- 33!
A warm welcome back to Branco Franco (Knee), Ian Newland (Fraser Range), Gus Preston (Flu), Brian Turvey and Craig Faulkhead (Work), and Malcolm Schluter (Missing in action, during a sojourn to Melbourne and / or Sydney see ‘Aunty.. *$#!@$@^’ ??) Committee meetings last week were better attended except some are still thin on the ground! I sat in on the Community Service Committee meeting this month, where they had a busy time with quite a bit of discussion on New Generations (RYLA / RYPEN related to Nyroca and Marble Range Trail), our AUCTION to be on Sat 7th NOVEMBER, Vending Machines and rostered individuals, and planned Puckridge Park Developments. The Club has recently applied for a ‘Community Funding’ Grant from the City Council, to help finance our further development in the Park. Our Membership Committee are still busy compiling the list of local business people to invite along for our potential members night on Tues 20th October. Don’t forget to pass your suggestions to Juri Berzins, Glenn Karutz, Des Pinson, Greg Honeychurch or Rod Patterson. This week we are fortunate to have Therese Pedlar, CFS Community Education Officer as our Guest speaker, who will enlighten us about a most important topic for all of us at present - Bushfire Prevention prior to the approaching bushfire season.Additionally, we have a visit from Rob Hughes of SA Water who has organised new signage including Flora and Fauna information boards to be installed at Puckridge Park very soon. We thank him sincerely for his efforts and we look forward him being our guest speaker on some related topics in the near future. Please don’t forget, to:
Fill out those roster sheets to help Rod Patterson for GABR, and we need some more to volunteer for the set up of marquees and operate the BBQ for the public on the ‘Light the Night’ project for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Tonight please check attendance sheet being circulated for GSE Team Visit on Tuesday September 29, a (GI) ‘Guests Invited’ night

Rotary District 9500 Disaster Support
TYPHOON MORAKOT, BUSHFIRES AND FLOODS
Earlier this month Typhoon Morakot hit Taiwan dropping 102 inches of rain in one day destroying thousands of homes and taking hundreds of lives.
The high levels of rain were due to the unusually low speed of the system travelling at less than 10km / hr and often stationary. 1.4 million people were forced to relocate, more than 6000 homes were destroyed and over 540 people are known to have died.
Rotary Shelter Boxes will have been deployed in the area and there will be a need to replenish those utilised from Australian stocks.
This year has also seen a number of significant events in Australia, the flooding in Queensland, the bush fires in Victoria.
Rotary support takes many forms and is spread over months and in some cases years. .
Rotarians have been active in raising funds and providing on ground relief and this work will continue for many months to come.
We continue to work with Government and other agencies to ensure that our response is timely and productive.
District 9500 has set up a disaster relief fund to facilitate a coordinated approach to directing funds to these causes and to enable the district to make a more significant impact when it has been required to do so.
Personal donations are tax deductible.
Most importantly it enables funds to be directed to the areas of greater priority and urgency, including shelter boxes, donations in kind, post trauma programs, food, clothing, and medical supplies etc.
Clubs are encouraged to forward any contributions to the “District 9500 Disaster Recovery Fund” c/o District Treasurer or account details are on page 35 of the district directory.

Great Restaurant
An elderly couple had dinner at another couple's house, and after eating, the wives left the table and went into the kitchen.
The two gentlemen were talking, and one said, 'Last night we went out to a new restaurant and it was really great.. I would recommend it very highly.'
The other man said, 'What is the name of the restaurant?'
The first man thought and thought and finally said, 'What is the name of that flower you give to someone you love?
You know.... The one that's red and has thorns.'
'Do you mean a rose?'
'Yes, that's the one,' replied the man. He then turned towards the kitchen and yelled, 'Rose, what's the name of that restaurant we went to last night?'

The four way test
Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned? |
|
Invocation:
For food, faith and fellowship and every opportunity of service we give you thanks O’Lord. |
