This week we welcome partners and guests of Rotarians.

Our guest speakers tonight, are Debbie Campbell of Karkoo and Mark Rawles of Tumby Bay who have been affected by Leukaemia. We look forward them telling us their stories so we can strengthen our awareness about Leukaemia and the assistance that they and their families and carers need as they deal with their individual situations.

They will also be showing us a DVD which backgrounds the Leukaemia Foundation’s “Light the Night “fundraising event which is to be held on the foreshore lawns near MAKYBE DIVA’s statue, after dusk on Friday evening 25th September.

As I pointed out last week, our Club has undertaken to support the Foundation by assembling a number of locally supplied marquees on the foreshore lawns during the day, and  supply and cook a BBQ tea for the attending public “Light the Night” event in the evening.

Net proceeds from the BBQ will go to Leukaemia Foundation.

Please fill in the Roster Task sheet for this project if you are able to help.

Next week (1st Sept) we have Committee meetings. Doesn’t seem that long since the last ones, but I hope we can have a few more Rotarians in attendance at the dinner meeting and follow on the Committees afterwards to enjoy our Club’s own special fellowship.

Some Reminders:

  • To all those who by now are getting used to donating blood, that the Red Cross Blood Bank facilities will be back in town during the week commencing the 7th September.

  • There is a GABR Fundraising Dinner to be attended by the riders and support crew and some invited guests, at the Boston Bay Winery on Wednesday night 6.30 for 7 pm. A Gourmet BBQ by Tony Ford is worthwhile, and there will be raffles to raise money for Australian Rotary Health. Rotarians and their guests are cordially invited. Frozen Crabs & The Blonde Stewardess

A lawyer boarded an airplane in New Orleans with a box of frozen crabs and
asked a blonde stewardess to take care of them for him.    She took the box
and promised to put it in the crew's refrigerator. He advised her that he
was holding her personally responsible for them staying frozen, mentioning
in a very haughty manner that he was a lawyer, and   proceeded to rant at
her about what would happen if she let them thaw out.   Needless to say, she
was annoyed by his behavior.

Shortly before landing in New York , she used the intercom to announce to
the entire cabin, "Would the gentleman who gave me the crabs in New Orleans
please raise your hand?"  Not one hand went up ... so she took them home and
ate them.

Two lessons here:
1. Lawyers aren't as smart as they think they are.
2. Blondes aren't as dumb as most folks think

The four way test
Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

Invocation:

For food, faith and fellowship and every opportunity of service we give you thanks O’Lord.
