Another week gone by quickly; marked by some happy and some sad stories.
It was great to have Jeremy Coaby, Harry Miller and Alison Ware from our aboriginal community as quests last week, and hear Jeremy talk of the Rotary Indigenous Health Scholarship, his course and his subsequent role in the Port Lincoln Aboriginal Health Service.
Harry Miller used the opportunity to qualify the benefits to his community of the Indigenous Health Scholarships and thanked our Club for its financial and moral support over the past 6 years or so.
It was nice to welcome back Dean George after his heart surgery - a quick recovery!
Glenn Karutz’s return with left forearm and hand in plaster was a sign that it was at least still intact; hope the recovery goes well Glenn. I’m sure Pinno will be sending you on an OH&S course, as soon as you are well, and he can find someone to run it!
He’s still assuring all those who enquire, that he definitely wasn’t there at the time!
On Wednesday it was a pleasure to welcome our new Exchange student, Pablo Henry from Belgium, at the airport, after some doubt about his connecting flights from Abu Dhabi via Sydney, Adelaide and finally Port Lincoln.
He is now well settled in with the Smith family and was off to school last Friday!
We welcome him tonight, and we look forward to him giving us a presentation soon.
Tonight, in light of my objectives, we look forward to our Service Directors giving us some idea of their aspirations and goals they have set for new and continuing projects and activities for our members throughout the this coming year. These activities will not only to assist our club in the support of those in need in our community but the wider District 9500 and Rotary International causes as well.
Spoke to Glenn Barnett on Sunday morning. He tells me that not much has improved for him, but he will soldier on confronting his issues with Avriel’s help, and all those who send their good wishes. He sends his own, with many thanks, to all members.
Have also been in touch with Marilyn Mayne, who tells me Peter’s situation is very lonely, and no signs of improvement. However he is delighted and really enjoys having visitors; including Avriel. Marilyn is beyond words for Avriel’s attendance.
Thanks so much to all those who have been able to visit both these guys.
I believe that Robyn Henderson is still standing by to have her operation. Hope that all goes well.
We were saddened to hear of the passing of our esteemed Honorary Rotarian, Archie Patterson OAM on Friday July 24. Archie was a significant character in all our minds; the sporting, and the general community. He was well loved and admired by all.
The Rotary Club of Port Lincoln extends its condolences to Greg and Karen, and all of Archie’s family.
