Well, what a fantastic evening we had on Saturday night!

Thanks must go to all those who helped with the setup, including the International Committee members who installed and dismantled the banners, flags and tables, and to those ladies who helped Jackie with the table settings.

Special thanks to Jackie for her untiring encouragement as we share the start of this new Rotary year together, which will no doubt be full of new challenges to work on and some rewards to reap!

The Master MC needs a special mention too, as he had no hesitation filling in for Acting Sgt Kevin Warren who was suddenly called away at the very last minute.

Bill always makes things move just like clockwork!

The management and Staff of Ravendale cooked up a cracker of a meal and along with the excellent service; they deserved every accolade given to them on the night by many individuals.

It was great to have PP and current AG Kaye Doyle with her partner Bill Boehm, as well as President Sandy Sumsion with her husband Craig here to share the evening with us, just as many of us did with them at Roxby recently, for their Changeover and 1st Birthday celebrations.

Congratulations to the 100%ers, the Centurions and Club awardees.

To Greg, on behalf of the Club, congratulations for a sterling effort on so many worthwhile projects during 2008-09, earning a merit award from our DG Roberta Waterman.

Our exchange student Beata leaves Pt Lincoln on Rex Airlines at 5.00pm on Sat 11 July. A good crowd to see her off would be appreciated.

Beata, you have been an outstanding young lady and a great ambassador for the exchange program. Tonight, we look forward to your final presentation and we all send our warmest wishes as you return home to commence another chapter of your life in Sweden. Please stay in touch.

Tonight we have some of our host families present, to whom our Club is certainly indebted for their support, of the students and the program.

Hey Everybody!

Sorry it has been so long since I last wrote.

So now I am halfway through my exchange and I cannot believe how quick the time has passed.

My host families have been Fantastic, my first host family the Smiths, I could not have possibly had a better first/any host family. My host mum Ulla was a freaking awesome cook and made the best chocolate/coconut wet muffin things-best food in the whole wide world. Both Ulla and my host dad Per, were amazing cooks, it was always like gourmet salads with all kinds of meats and stews, we had sushi and chinese and ahhh it was just an amazing 4 months with them…and the food was pretty good as well. No they were seriously the nicest people I’m really glad to have met them and got the opportunity to know them better. My little host brother Mathias was also really great, he spoke perfect English and it was just really nice to have him around. Then when I left they gave me a card and a Pandora bracelet with a turtle charm!!!!!! I was like…. Thankyou so much, I do not want to leave, can I stay for the rest of the year??? lol. And my host mum was even like, “Now you can match your friend in Australia”! (Because I had brought the same turtle charm for my friend in Australia) Amazing people, I really hope they come to Australia some day.

I will also be meeting the oldest son in the Smith family, Simon, as he will be getting back to Denmark on the 10th of July, as he has been on exchange in New Zealand for the past year.

So on June 1st I changed family. In my new family I have a little 1 year old host brother Anders (he will be 2 in August), which also means my host parents Peter and Birgitte are fairly young which is different as well. But I have told mum that she is’nt getting any grandkids from me…*joking. Little Anders is cute when he’s in a good mood (which isn’t very often) other than that he is really quite annoying but yeah still in nappies and can’t talk, so that is extremely different! I have been with them for a whole month now and love it and the house now is huge and it’s a farm which is kinda cool, especially as it is still in town. AND they have a dog!! Which is really cute but not the smartest dog ever, dunno how to explain just a silly dog I guess, but good to have around J  My host mum Birgitte is pregnant with twins so that’s also different, and they are due in December so I should get to see them.

So now I am on Summer holidays which go for 2 months I think, it is soo great! At the moment I am volunteering at Fjords and Baelts Marine Science Center in Kerteminde (4 hour round trip each day on bike/bus) which is pretty good. I am responsible for a tank full of tadpoles (6 frogs now) so I have been making an aquarium for them and feeding them.  Then on the weekend somebody brought in a seagull chick so I am now looking after that as well. And there are also some Cuttlefish eggs which will hopefully hatch soon, which they said I can look after when they hatch. So I’m pretty excited for them to hatch J I have been there for the past 4 days and hopefully have another week or 2 there, maybe even more.

Then next week all the newbie exchange students come! Very exciting. lol

Then at the end of July I go to Germany for a week to attend a Rotary Summer Camp-Don’t really know much about it, so a bit nervous about that actually. But I’m sure it’ll be good. Then I am hopefully going to Sweden to visit Beata and her family. Then in October me and 4 other exchange students are going to a Cirque du Soliel show in Copenhagen. So I should be kept pretty busy for the next few months.

Oh wow I almost missed Eurotrip. In may I went on an 18 day tour of Europe. I was on a bus with 42 exchange students from Australia, America, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Argentina, Canada and Japan. We visited Berlin, Prague, Vienna, Jeso De Jeselo, Venice, Verona, San Remo, Avingon, Monaco, Nice, Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam. It was a nice tour and I saw and did alot of fantastic things. My favourite places were probably Vienna and Monaco! The Formula one race was on when we were in Monaco which was great and before the race the cars went through the streets (past McDonalds where we were!!!) it was fantastic. Another highlight was going all the way to the top of the Eiffel Tower-we went up just before sunset and saw Paris go dark it was amazing. I also caught up with Oliver for a day, which was great as well (a personal tour guide J it was great)

I know I missed a whole heap but hopefully that explains a little bit of what I have been doing and who I’ve been living with and what I’m doing for the rest of summer and onwards.

Hope you’re all well.

Miss you all!!!

The four way test
Of the things we think, say or do:
Is it the truth?
Is it fair to all concerned?
Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

For food, faith and fellowship and every opportunity of service we give you thanks O’Lord.
