President's Message

  Jenk's Jottings

We have had a very busy weekend with the tuna stall in operation for a number of days.  My sincere thanks to all who assisted and particularly to Brian Turvey who put in a huge effort in organising the whole deal.  I look forward to receiving his report at the next meeting.

I also extend the thanks and appreciation of our club to Steph and Leo Stewart for their efforts in the fundraiser for Palliative Care.  Marg and I enjoyed the trip on the Waller boat together with food and drinks.  It would have been nice to fill the boat.  I also thank those Rotarians and their wives who supported the fundraiser with their attendance.  I look forward to receiving details of the fund raiser at this meeting.

Committee meetings will commence on the 7th February and this is a reminder to directors.

Grape Picking commences on Sunday 5th February 2012 and we will get an indication of numbers at the next meeting.

Finally I note that Giu Lukine, exchange student from Brazil, will arrive in Port Lincoln on Monday 6th February 2012.  I am sure David Johnston will provide details at Tuesday’s meeting.

Dear Rotarians,

My name is Vicki Kembery and I am the Secretary of Armidale Rotary Club in northern NSW.

Our district 9650 is hosting a GSE Team from Florida, District 6990 in February and March. After their visit, 3 of the team members are extending their stay in Australia for a couple of weeks. They are hoping to spend 2 nights in Port Lincoln so they can go Shark Cage Diving(!!) and were wondering if there were any Rotarians that may be able to put them up for a couple of nights.

They would really appreciate it if there was anyone in your Club who might be able to accommodate them while they are there. There are 2 young women (1 school teacher and 1 lawyer) and 1 young man (a lawyer). They are planning to be there from Monday 19th March until Wednesday 21st March. I am booking their Shark Cage Dive on the 20th.   If you could help them with a couple of nights accommodation it would be greatly appreciated

I look forward to hearing form any of you if you are able to help.

Thanks

Vicki Kembery

Youth Exchange

Hello Mr. Johnston, happy new year!

I'm Giuliana Lukine Martins Brittes, the Brazilian girl that goes to Port Lincoln through the Rotary Exchange Student Program.

First of all, I would like to say thank you for the opportunity. I think this experience will be unforgettable and will make me grow up as person, changing the way I know the world!

Also, thank you for the information and documents for Visa process. I'm working togheter with my mother, as my English is not so fluent yet.

Here in Brazil, the Visa process is already on and we think that until January 25th it will be on my hand. So the estimated departure date is January 26th, arriving in Adelaide at 22h. But we prefer having the Visa on hands before buy the ticket.

As soon as we have the Visa, we will confirm the arrival date and we thank you to provide the regional flight from Adelaide to Port Lincoln in order to get easier to my host family pick me up. How should we send you the payment for this regional ticket?

I will send you good news as soon as possible,

Thanking for all your support again,

Giu Lukine

Kerang work trip.

The date for the trip is now planned to start on the 26th of March.

Projects include, fencing, house repairs, tree planting and recreation park repair.  A well setup caravan park is attached to the town where you could have an van site or cabin facilities.  We would plan on being available for work for approximately 7 to 10 days and the work we take on will depend on the skills of the volunteers.  To assist in planning could you indicate your availability for the project.
