President' Message
	Jenk's Jottings

Firstly, thank you to Graham Henderson for chairing the meeting in my absence.  Also thank you to Ian Phillips and Glen Karutz for their thought provoking summary of the Renmark Conference.  We were very well represented with some 16 couples in attendance.

There are good numbers attending the ladies function on the 9th November and I thank Marg for organising the same.

The Christmas show will be coming up very soon and I wonder if anyone has any thoughts in mind as to the format.  Please discuss same at the committee meetings following the next meeting.

Please remember the rosters for the Police Golf Day BBQ (18th November 2011).  David Forbes, Pat Callaghan, Mike Munro, Allan Smith and George Keil, I understand they are looking for some one to handle the betting on the 12th tee clock.  Any takers???

For those who have not paid for the trifecta tickets taken by them, please pay the proceeds to Greg Patterson or Glen Karutz ASAP so that the final figures can be settled.  No news of any winner at this stage.

I thank those involved in putting up tents for the Leukaemia fundraiser which will be completed prior to this meeting on 8th November 2011.

 White Ribbon Day- Friday 25th November 2011

          Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Port Lincoln foreshore 12:00-13:00pm   

Your members are invited to make an oath at our White Ribbon Day Swearing Ceremony to make a commitment to stop violence against women in our community.

By making such oath you/they make a personal pledge to not commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women.  

As a respected group within this community, the voices of the members of your organisation are important  - showing that that each of you want the women and children in your life,

in fact all women and children in our community – to know that they can live safely in our community.

This ceremony will be run by the Domestic Violence Action Group, Port Lincoln, a group that creates opportunities to achieve better outcomes for victims of domestic violence

in the Lower Eyre Peninsula area. Following the ceremony a BBQ lunch will be available for all in attendance as well as the general public.

We are hoping that the ceremony will involve not only Rotary Club members, but several other men within our community who, like yourself, are respected and who perhaps hold

positions of leadership and influence within this community and thereby provide opportunity to make a difference. This ceremony is hoped to provide further education and as part

of the awareness campaign to stop violence against women.  Port Lincoln and the Lower EP has many women, children and families who have been directly affected by domestic violence.

There is significant benefit in intervening through education and awareness to all in our community to establish an environment where violence against women is not accepted.

It is envisaged that through collaboration with local agencies, business and community members such a ceremony will create further community awareness about this real problem.

Please feel free to encourage other men in your work or social groups who might also be interested in participating in this important event.

• Rostered periods are now fortnightly. This allows for a minimum of 5 trips per fortnight, rather than 3 per week.
• Two people are rostered each period to provide both flexibility and assistance if required.
