President' Message

  Jenk's Jottings

Firstly let me congratulate our new member Andrian Griffen.  Please make him feel welcome.  Adrian will be in the Club Committee under Greg Honeychurch and in the Tunarama committee with Brian Turvey.

I think I was to have Weetbix, as sponsor, say a few words prior to the induction and my apologies go out to Kevin for that presidential lapse.

Whilst on the apology line, I confirm that the majority of the members wish to have an invocation and of course democracy must rule despite the sergeants and my lack of concern.  Kuno please accept my apology in that regard.

Thanks to Vice President Graham for taking over the chair due to my early departure.

Please remember that Marjorie Jessin (new Exchange student from France) will arrive on the 28th July, so please consider greeting her at the airport at 3.35pm.

We thank Denise, the Ravendale Club Manager, for providing a complimentary bottle of wine for each table and her continuing support of the raffle prize each week.

A Board Meeting was held on the third Thursday this month (21/11/11) and I thank all those who attended.  A motion was moved and passed that the $50,000 held in our Fire Account be passed on to the Community Foundation to be paid to their General Account.  This ensures that the money will be used for the benefit of residents of Eyre Peninsula.

It was also agreed that working bees and service work be scheduled on weekends as well as mid-week to allow those members still employed to have the opportunity of serving the community.

Correspondence was received from Euan Miller regarding the hosting of international students in December this year.  That project has been passed on for consideration of the international committee who will report back to the club after investigating the same.

It was also resolved that a further sum of $2,000 be paid to the depreciation account for the snack machine replacement.

We look forward to hearing Kent Crack from Matthew Flinders Home at our next meeting.  See you then.

Noel

"Follow the Yellow Boat Road"

A fundraising activity for Polio undertaken by  Robert Pennicott, who is circumnavigating Australia in a rubber boat. He and his team will be arriving in Port Lincoln on the 6th August which is a Saturday. I have begun communication with the organisers and will keep you informed as I know more, but at this stage I believe that we will need to do the following: *  Find suitable mooring for their boats. *  Host up to 7 people over night.  Give them breakfast and provide lunch for their next days passage to Adelaide. This looks to be a very interesting project and as we know a very worthwhile cause.  I will be calling for assistance from club members once I get more specific details. In the meantime if you wish you could access their website at:  http://follow.theyellowboatroad.com
