HAVE FUN IN ROTARY   HELP A MATE

  Col's Carry-on

Another quick meeting last week, but some interesting

Committee Meetings.

This week will be in Coffin Bay and we have Darian

and Carol Gale joining us to talk about Coffin bay and

tourism.

We will need to discuss some events coming up; Mega BBQ, RYE

visit, RFE Saskatchewan visit and Crabbing Trip.

Our meeting on 15/2/11 we will Heinz-Werner Engel a world authority

on EcoMapping with us to give us an introduction to environmental management. Working with him, and joining us for dinner will be Richard Furler of Green Ochre, Adelaide.

For those who read this early I will be emailing members to verify numbers for the coach for Tuesday night. It will be leaving Coles carpark at 5.45 sharp.

See you all in Coffin Bay

Colin

Have fun in Rotary.

Youth Exchange.

Greetings from Köln

I arrived in Frankfurt at about 6 in the morning on the 22nd with no issues. Emily (another exchange student being hosted by a neighbouring club) and I were picked up by my host parents (Maria and Stefan Dege) who got up at 4 o'clock to be there. It was a very nice, warm welcome; even though it was -5! My host family are lovely people. I have a younger brother Moritz who is 13 and younger sister Greta who is 10. The eldest son Paul who is 16 is currently on exchange in Sydney. The Dege's house is on the Rhine in Rodenkirchen which is south of Cologne. They have a beautiful view from their kitchen window.   During the first week there was nothing that I had to attend or do, so it has been a blur of meeting countless people, eating lots of food and visiting many places. I attended my first German Rotary Meeting last Tuesday with the Bornheim club. It was quite formal and different but everyone was very friendly and welcoming. The most impressive thing I have seen so far is the Dom (naturally). The size of it and the features are phenomenal. This week I have started a language course which will go for 4 weeks (including this week) and then I will begin school. So hopefully I can get a handle on the language in the next few weeks. Even though most people speak good English or at least know a little, it will be nice to know what is exactly going on for once!   I am having a bit of trouble completing my Visa but hopefully will get it sorted out soon. It seems Germany is a very easy country to enter but hard to legally stay!

I hope you are keeping cool.

Bis später, Byron
