Thanks to Mike Leech for taking up the gap on the Club

Board as International Director. This week will be the

first Committee Meetings and I hope many of you take

up the opportunity for interesting discussions. The Board

would welcome any feedback on future directions.

I enjoyed hearing the talk from the Dragons Abreast

ladies and am proud of the assistance given by Rotary and individual

Rotarians. It was good to welcome Olivia Lowe from Denmark in her first

few days here. I believe she will enjoy her stay, as we will.

This week Gus Preston will be telling us his tale, some 24 years since he

joined the Club. Don’t be surprised if this quiet achiever reveals some

interesting background.

We have arranged  Ladies Nights in Sept at Lincoln Grove, and a      Croatian Night at the Croatian Club in Oct.

Last Thursday I visited the Men’s Shed and had coffee with a dozen blokes who look forward to Thursdays.

John Howard, Queen Elizabeth, and Vladimir Putin all die

and go to hell. While there, they spy a red phone and ask what the phone is for. The devil tells them it is for calling back to Earth. Putin asks to call Russia and talks for five

minutes. The devil informs him that the cost is $1 million, so Putin writes him a cheque.

Next the Queen calls England and talks for 30 minutes. The devil informs her that the charge is $6 million, so she writes out a cheque.

Finally John Howard gets his turn and talks for an hour. When he is finished the devil informs him the cost is $5. When Putin and the Queen hear this they go   ballistic and want to know why Howard got his call so cheaply.

The devil smiles and replies, ‘Since Rudd/Gillard took over, the country has gone to hell, so its a local call.’
