President' Message

Club assembly was nice and short, especially after that brief dinner meeting! Thanks to my Service Committee Directors for their impromptu reports and a special thankyou to Greg Honeychurch who ‘winged it’ so well. He has done so much for International Committee and the Club, in Pat’s absence.

I must include Terry Doyle as well; still our attendance officer and now playing our under-treasurer’s role, he has been on a very steep learning curve without Mike Munro to guide him. I think we can forgive him for not providing too much financial detail at the assembly, except for the summary and bottom line figures. Well done, and we wish you the best as you take the accounts into 2010-11.

We have all had a good, busy and rewarding Rotary Year and it’s been a wonderful experience for me to have served the Club in this capacity, and have been supported by so many dependable directors and members. It has just been quite amazing, but it’s also hard to believe that 2009-10 is all but over!

Financially, after distribution of my discretionary funds to Rotary and those deserving in our own community, and I am pleased to be able to handover a similar balance to that which was afforded me by Greg Patterson, at the commencement of my Rotary Year.

Thank you all for your support. All the members, Jackie and I extend our best wishes to PE Colin and Dianne as they prepare for their changeover night and a happy and rewarding year ahead.

General Business Items discussed and resolved at the assembly were:

Membership Subscriptions

Motion passed;

            “That we accept the recommendation of the Board that members Subscriptions for the 2010/11    year be $140.”

              Please note that the dinner fee of $20.00 pp, pw was left to carry on until a change is needed.

Rotary Youth Driver Awareness Program

The President informed the meeting that before a decision is made about proceeding;

  • We need top establish a steering committee to discuss information received to date.
  • The Club should visit another participating Rotary Club to observe the program first hand.
  • Understand what it means for our Club
  • Be informed about RYDA as a program for this Club, as it might well be a 2-3 year program.
  • Understand the commitment needed by Club and its members.

The Dinner for the wives/partners (of Rotarians) and their friends was a great success. The meal was lovely and the talk and discussion with Helen Hookings was compelling and very useful.

Jackie sends her thanks to all those ladies and their friends who attended.

Community Health BBQ Challenge for Men’s Health week was a great success on Friday afternoon. Firstly we were out in the public eye, helping in the community again, and secondly we had a continuous line up of 10 or more patrons for our well run BBQ from noon until we ran out of food about 2.15 pm. Those that assisted on our stall had a great time. We were also able to provide a ‘spur-of-the-moment’ Bendigo Marquee for Country Health SA as well. “Be Prepared” as Malcolm would say!

Big thanks go to Noel Jenkins, David Gillies, John Myers, Rod Patterson, Gus Preston and Colin West.

Tonight we welcome; Pablo for his farewell presentation, all his host families and those students from LEP who have been chosen to go abroad on RYE in January 2011, with their parents. Odette and Andre Pearson, mother and brother of Emile Pearson on RYE Sweden 2010 have come along too.

Pablo departs Port Lincoln on WED 30 June (6.00am), ex ADE same day, via MEL & Bangkok, home.

June 25 – 27: Nyroca ‘End of year’ camp & Sunday BBQ. Please check the attendance sheet.

June 29 – There is NO Rotary meeting that night; in lieu of the ‘End of year BBQ’ at Nyroca
