Our first guest speaker last week, Peter Murton, gave us a good insight into the District 9500 Conference from 15 to 17 October, at the AAMI Stadium. I hope we are able to have a good attendance from our Club. It’s always a good get-together for everyone, and a special time for our members, especially the newer ones, to spend some time away and enjoy the great fellowship. So, make sure you all book into the conference early to get the best dollar deals, and ensure we are able to organise some ‘group accommodation’ where we can make some of our own fun too. Do you remember who our new Conference coordinator is?
Secondly, it was lovely to have Brea Price come along and tell us all about her exciting new venture in entering the 2011 Tunarama Quest. We are very pleased to be able to support her, mostly in kind, but we have ‘kicked the can’ to the tune of about $250 to get her started (entered), along with her major sponsor, the Bendigo Bank. It will be significant that our Club will be able to achieve some publicity within our community as a result of our support for Brea, who is making the “Make a wish Foundation” the beneficiary of her fund raising efforts.
This week we have ‘Club Assembly’, after our normal dinner meeting, so I look forward to seeing good numbers attending, as we discuss issues such as subs for the coming year and which direction we might take in furthering our assessment in being a possible facilitators for RYDA for the secondary schools on Southern Eyre Peninsula .... to name a couple.
The Dinner for the wives/partners (of Rotarians) and their friends is on this week too!
Jackie has organised this at the Kirton Point Bowling Club, 6.30 for 7 pm. $20 pp.
Catering is by Dragons Abreast Port Lincoln and the guest speaker is Helen Hookings, the local McGrath Sellers Breast Care Nurse, talking about Breast Cancer Awareness. She has at least 20 attending which should be a good evening. She is looking forward to seeing you all.
