Wow, our guest speaker, Jane Scotcher from “Ronny Macs” was certainly fascinating, with the ‘off-the-cuff’ images she gave and the stories she told. It was very moving to hear about some of Gemma Adams’s journey too; with her parents Belinda and Trent, as well as grandparents Betty Adams and Jim and Marilyn Kay present that evening.
It was a real pleasure to give Jane a donation of $1,000 to this most worthy cause - “Ronald McDonald House-Adelaide”. We know it is most appreciated and it will be well used.
This week we have a short talk on this years D9500 conference at AAMI in October by Conference Coordinator Peter Murton. In addition, we have Brea Price (recent RYLA Awardee) as a guest to tell us about her intended role as one of the Miss Tunarama entrants for 2011. Committee Meetings after.
Next week June 15, Dinner for the wives/partners (of Rotarians) and their friends.
Jackie has organised this at the Kirton Point Bowling Club, 6.30 for 7 pm. $20 pp.
Catering is by Dragons Abreast Port Lincoln and the guest speaker is Helen Hookings, the local McGrath Sellers Breast Care Nurse, talking about Breast Cancer Awareness. A number of Flyers/emails have been sent to Rotarians email addresses.
To date, the response has been disappointing, even accounting for those who are away!
If you have not done so already, please let Jackie know before 5.00 pm Tuesday 8 June
so that she can confirm the numbers attending with the venue and caterers, as Jackie and I are off to Adelaide Wednesday 9, back Monday 14.
NB! Same night – Rotarians have ‘Club Assembly’, after our normal dinner meeting.
June 22, will be another LADIES NIGHT when Pablo Henry (having just made it back here from his Rock and Reef Tour) will give his final presentation about his ‘life and times’ in Port Lincoln and Australia. I’m sure he will have some very interesting stories to tell, photos and movies to see, and I reckon there will be something about windsurfing, diving, fishing, farming, touring and well; what else is there? Ah that’s right….eating!!
All his host families will be here that night, so we will have an opportunity to thank them for doing such a wonderful job. We couldn’t continue the Youth Exchange Program without these loving and generous families.
The same evening Victoria Barker (PLHS and kindly sponsored by RC of Kangaroo Island) will give us a brief presentation of her recent RYE year (2009) in Southern Germany.
I have also invited the 3 local students selected for RYE 2011 and their parents to introduce them to you all, as well as (RYE SWE 2010) Emile Pearson’s mum Odette and his brother Andre.
Pablo will depart Port Lincoln on Tues 29 June (time TBC), ex Adelaide, for home on 30 June.
June 25 – 27: Nyroca ‘End of year’ camp and Sunday BBQ.
The Board has decided that salads will be provided for the Sunday BBQ.
Please BYO everything else, including nibbles, meat, breads, desserts, drinks, glasses, etc. Nothing too much for anyone in the mass catering line, just cook our own and have a good time!
June 29 – In lieu of ‘End of year BBQ’ there is NO Rotary meeting that night. |
