President' Message

After a magnificent day spent at the Port Lincoln Golf Club for our Corporate Cup, and a few tripping off later for a ‘mammorable evening’ at the theatre, we were a little short on numbers at our meeting!

It  was a short sharp and shiny one; finished by 8.00 pm, and a few stayers managed to ‘have a few’ in fellowship afterwards, whilst others took advantage of an earlier night, and the perhaps the opportunity surprise their better half, or just disturb her in mid TV program! Congratulations to Noel Jenkins and his band of happy helpers for an excellent golf day organised with great composure and a result which reflected all the effort contributed.

Noel Jenkins will have an opportunity to give us his report on ‘The Big Day’ at our meeting tonight. Tonight Jim Kay has organised a guest speaker, Jane Scotcher, the Executive Officer of “Ronald McDonald House” in 271 Melbourne Street, North Adelaide. I’m sure all attending will be captivated by the images she has and the stories she tells. This most worthy cause runs a very special place, where miracles of love, caring and kindness take place for children with cancer, as well as their parents and siblings. It deserves our keen support, as we know many locals who have been, and are still assisted, whilst their families are facing such testing circumstances.

It is my pleasure to give her a significant donation for “Ronald McDonald House-Adelaide” this evening. Next meeting June 8, we will have a short talk on this years D9500 conference at AAMI in October by Conference Coordinator Peter Murton. After which I hope we can hear from the IYFORIANS on their WA trip, as our proposed visit to the new MFS Fire Station can’t take place until after the official opening at the end of July, according to John Wise.

June 15, Jackie has organised a dinner for our wives and partners at the Kirton Point Bowling Club, 6.30 for 7 pm. $20 pp., Catering is by Dragons Abreast Port Lincoln and the guest speaker is Helen Hookings, the local McGrath Sellers Breast Care Nurse, talking about Breast Cancer Awareness.

That same night we will have our Club Assembly, at Ravendale after the normal dinner meeting.

June 22, will be another LADIES NIGHT when Pablo Henry (having just made it back here from his Rock and Reef Tour) will give his final presentation about his ‘life and times’ in Port Lincoln and Australia. I’m sure he will have some very interesting stories to tell, photos and movies to see, and I reckon there will be something about windsurfing, diving, fishing, farming, touring and well; what else is there? Ah that’s right….eating!! All his host families will be here that night, so we will have an opportunity to thank them for doing such a wonderful job. We couldn’t continue the Youth Exchange Program without these loving and generous families. The same evening Victoria Barker Local girl (Sponsored by RC of Kangaroo Island) will give us a brief presentation of her recent RYE year (2009) in Southern Germany. Pablo will depart Port Lincoln on Tuesday 29 June (time TBC) and ex Adelaide, for home on 30 June.

June 25 – 27: Nyroca ‘End of year’ camp and Sunday BBQ. The Board decided that salads would be provided, but BYO everything else, including dessert. Nothing too much for anyone, just have a good time!

WHY MEN ARE NEVER DEPRESSED

Men Are Just Happier People.
Your last name stays put.
The garage is all yours.
Wedding plans take care of themselves.

Chocolate is just another snack.
You can never be pregnant.
Car mechanics tell you the truth.
The world is your urinal.
You never have to drive to another petrol station toilet because this one is just too icky.
You don't have to stop and think of which

way to turn a nut on a bolt.
Same work, more pay.
Wrinkles add character.
People never stare at your chest when you're talking to them.
New shoes don't cut, blister, or mangle your feet.
One mood all the time.
Phone conversations are over in 30 seconds flat.
You know stuff about tanks and engines.

A ten-day holiday requires only one suitcase.
You can open all your own jars.
You get extra credit for the slightest act of thoughtfulness.
Your underwear is $8.95 for a three-pack.

Three pairs of shoes are more than enough. You never have strap problems in public.
You are unable to see wrinkles in your clothes.
Everything on your face stays its original color...
The same hairstyle lasts for years, maybe decades.
You only have to shave your face and neck.
You can play with toys all your life.
One wallet and one pair of shoes -- one color for all seasons.
You can wear shorts no matter how your legs look.
You can 'do' your nails with a pocket knife..
You have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache.
You can do Christmas shopping for 25 relatives on December 24 in 25 minutes.
No wonder men are happier.
